We all know that normally, size of rayon / viscose embroidery thread is 120D/2, and绣花线polyester embroidery thread is 108D/2. However, some supplier mark the size of polyester embroidery thread in 120D/2. In general, both size are correct. The difference is that understand from different angle.

Let us understand the difference from dying process of embroidery thread.
Polyester embroidery thread is dyed under high temperature and high pressure. After dying under high temperature and high pressure, polyester fibre will be contacted. Contracted 108D polyester embroidery thread will get the same thickness with 120D rayon / viscose embroidery thread. However, rayon / viscose embroidery thread is dyed under normal temperature and pressure, shrinkage is very little and can be negligible.

So we say that thickness of 108D/2 polyester embroidery thread is the same as 120D/2 rayon / viscose embroidery thread. It is why use 108D polyester fibre to make embroidery thread. Otherwise, the thickness of polyester embroidery thread will differ from rayon / viscose embroidery thread. I.e. final size of 108D/2 polyester embroidery is still same as 120D/2

When supplier tells you that their polyester embroidery thread is 108D/2, you can carelessly use it as 120D/2 embroidery thread. Otherwise, if supplier tells you that their fibre is 120D, you should be careful as final polyester embroidery thread will be thicker than 120D.
